First Hollow Stem in Grant County

First Hollow Stem in Grant County

I have found early (short) first hollow stem on early planted, large, un-grazed, wheat in southern Grant county. (Variety unknown) 2/22/16

Grazing wheat after first hollow stem has been found to be detrimental to the $ bottom line, according to OSU research. I am sure that grazed, later planted, later maturing varieties are not there yet but producers should probably start checking their grazed wheat in the coming week(s) and contemplating removing cattle from acres they are going to harvest.

The Oklahoma Mesonet has a tool on it that will perhaps help producers with the determination.
