Looking For First Hollow Stem

Looking For First Hollow Stem

I have had many inquiries about "first hollow stem" in the wheat, recently.  It is time for that to occur IF things were NORMAL.  I have looked in some of the earliest wheat planted that has been ungrazed and found no signs of FHS with no signs of it showing up in the near future.

The OK Mesonet has a FHS predictor using heat days (etc.) since planting and it is predicting March 9th at Brekinridge and March 14th at Medford.

Right now the plants are behind their normal growth curve. The air is cold, the ground is cold, its COLD!  But, when they kick in gear I suspect they will come on fast.

So, right now no "first hollow stem" and it obviously will come later than it has in many years.  Will keep checking and will post when found.
