Soybean Pods

Soybean Pods

I am starting to see more soybean pod damage in the fields.  This damage is probably caused by grasshoppers, or the soybean pod worm (aka the corn ear worm) or both.  The economic threshold for spraying is 5% pod damage or more.  That is 5% of the pods, not 5% of the individual pod.  Producers should decide if the yield potential warrants a herbicide application and check their fields.
